Roy "Ole Boy Roy" A. Matherne, 73, a native of Valentine and resident of Larose passed away Saturday November 25, 2017. A visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Larose on Thursday November 30, 2017 from 10:00 am until service time. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am with internment in the church cemetery.
Mr. Roy is survived by his brother; Myron Matherne (Belinda), sister Myra Matherne, nieces and nephews; Tory Matherne Kunkle (Marc), Jason Matherne, Robert Matherne (Sabrina Reeves) and Dane Matherne, great nieces and nephews; Elizabeth, Gevin, Robert (Passion), Tabatha, and Joseph and great great nieces and nephews Robbie, Mason, Lucas, Sloan, and Claire, Adriene, sister-in-law; Janet White Matherne, and godchildren; Stacey Rodrigue, Ramona Pizzolata, and Jason Matherne.
Mr. Matherne was preceded in death by his brother; Bobby Matherne, parents; Eroy and Clara O. Matherne, grandparents; Emelus and Sedonia Matherne and Leon and Emma Orgeron.
He was a devoted Catholic and outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, frogging, and trawling. Mr. Roy volunteered at the Broadway Nursing Home serving ice cream, the Larose Civic Center helping out at festivals, the Bollinger Picnic and Chouest Fest and spent his spare time building mud boats, rebuilding carburetors, and making gratons
