It is with great sadness that the family of Richard “Dick” Joseph Gravois, Sr. announce his passing. He was born on July 10, 1936 and died on Sunday, June 4, 2023 surrounded by his family.
He was the second of ten children born in Vacherie to Lynn and Lizzie Gravois. He was married for 67 years to the love of his life, Laura Granier Gravois and they had two children; Melanie (Larry) and Richard “Ricky” Gravois Jr. (Sharon). He had five granddaughters, Laura (Jeff), Lizzie (Fredi), Robyn, Erica (Tory) and Mindy (Brad); fourteen great-grandchildren, Layne and Sydney Becnel, Tyler Ponvelle, Ian and Ava Steele, Caydence Gravois, Alayna Adams, Emma and Mason Aucoin, Andi, Alec, Cohen and Baylen Daigle and one great-great-grandchild, Gage.
He is also survived by his three brothers, Randy (Bonnie), Lynn and Ronald Gravois.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy, Larry, Roland and Martin Gravois and sisters, Betty Martinez and Marie Thibodaux and his best buddy Lee “T-Lee” Tregre.
In his younger days, Dick loved to hunt deer, plant a garden and go to the camp. A love he passed on to his son.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church on Thursday, June 8th at 11 am. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 am until service time with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
