Beloved by family and friends, Rexie Jean Morrison Becnel passed away on January 14, 2013. Rexie was a resident of Thibodaux, Louisiana, but was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 9, 1939. She was preceded in passing by cherished parents and in-laws, Bobbie Violet and Earl Morrison, and Evelyn Chenier and Josue Becnel. She lived a large part of her life in the mountains of Tennessee, and then moved closer to her children and grandchildren a few years ago. Rexie was an artist, "Rex E. Seneca", who currently has an art exhibit at the Jean Lafitte Cultural Wetlands Center in Thibodaux. She had a love for life, children, nature, and art that was unfortunately curtailed too early by health challenges. That didn't stop her from creating something wherever she could though, and she never met a stranger. Rexie is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Cindy Becnel; Greg Becnel and his wife Tammy, their children, Chance and his wife Lori, Caleb, and Crystal, and their grandchildren, Gage, Makenzie, Matthew, Jayden, Hailey and Sunshine; Roger Becnel and his children, Amanda, Candace, and Mitchell, and his grandchildren; and Mitchell Becnel. Rexie is also survived by her brother Perry Morrison and his wife Linda, their children, Casey and Kelly, and extended loving family and friends in Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee. All will continue to carry on her legacy of love and light.
For friends and family and anyone who crossed paths with Rexie that would like to join us, there will be a service held at 10:30 on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the St. John's Episcopal Church at 719 Jackson St., in Thibodaux, with a celebration of her life at the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center to follow at 314 St. Mary St., also in Thibodaux.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Center in Rexie's honor instead.
Samart-Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
