Owen Augustine Matherne, 7, a native of Lockport and resident of Raceland, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015.
Visitation will be held at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 3, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday beginning at 8:00 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Nicholas and Sarah Matherne; brothers, Eli Paul, Jack Joseph, and Cole Anthony; grandparents, Wade and Elaine Matherne and Scott and Kathie Thibodeaux; great grandparents, Patsy Matherne, Edward Thibodeaux, Jr., and Eldon and Mary Breaux; godfather, Timothy Thibodeaux and wife Madison; uncle, Brennan Matherne and wife Jill; aunt, Brittany Matherne; and cousin, Norah Jane.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Deacon Landry Matherne, Janice Ledet Danos, and Alice Ledet Thibodeaux.
Owen was a Wolf in Cub Scout Pack 334. He was a student at St. Mary's Nativity Catholic School.
He was passionate about learning, especially about God and his Faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate if books were brought to be donated to local libraries in his memory so that others can share his love of reading.
