Edgar E. "Gene" Dugal, Jr., 80, a native of Sunset and resident of Raceland passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
Visitation will be held at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church on Saturday, June 16th from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.
Gene is survived by his wife, Linda M. Dugal; children, Robert Brent Dugal, Dianne Dugal-Chevalier (T.J.); Edgar "Eddie" Dugal, III, Rebecca Caruso (Keith), Dwayne Dugal (Sheri), Steven Dugal (Lisa), Matthew Dugal, Shari Adams (Frank) and John Reid (Teresa); brother, Dr. James Dugal; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar "Tubby" and Ruth Dupuis Dugal; brother, Dr. George Dugal.
Gene graduated Cathedral High, Lafayette, LA, in 1955 and went on to graduate from Commonwealth Mortuary School, Houston, TX, in 1957. He worked as an embalmer and funeral director for the past 60 years. He was known in the community as "Mr. Gene".
Gene was an outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting and fishing, telling stories about LA and Cajun life-mostly jokes. He was well known for his practical jokes, cooking, kind-giving heart and his love for family and friends and dogs.
