Edgar Antoine Cantrelle, Jr. passed away on September 17, 2013 surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with illness.
Visitation will be held at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Edgar A. Cantrelle, Jr. was born on August 26, 1927 in Galveston, TX. He moved with his family to Cut Off Louisiana in1930. Ed as all knew him, is the third of five siblings; Mary Lou Benson, the late Wilma B. Tsangaris, Betty C. Hyden and Nancy C. Rodriguez. He is preceded in death by his parents; Edgar Antoine Cantrelle, Sr. and Aline Plaisance Cantrelle.
In 1945 Ed joined The United States Navy and travelled to many places in the United States and it's territories serving our country.
On May 7, 1947 Ed met the love of his life Vera Madeline Weber and after a short courtship, they married on February 14, 1948. After sixty-five years, she remains his loving wife. In the same year, Ed began working for South Central Bell where he continued for forty years. After multiple transfers with the company, he finally made it back to his beloved Lafourche Parish in 1977.
Ed was a long-standing member of The Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight, Knight of the Year and was a distinguished member of The Fourth Degree. He was a member of the Jaycees and an active member of St. Hilary Parish where he served as a Eucharistic minister for thirty-six years. He likewise relished (and took very seriously) making cotton candy at the annual La Vie La Fourchaise. He enjoyed volunteering for various events throughout the year including the Tootsie Roll Drive every Fall.
His devoted wife of sixty-five years; Vera Madeline Weber Cantrelle his two daughters; Jacqueline A. Englade and Christine A. McDonnell, his five adorable grandchildren; Erica, Danny, Cody, Dustin and Amber and his five great-grandchildren survive Ed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Lung Association.
