Dewey Joseph Foret, 81, beloved husband, nurturing father, treasured Popsie, caring brother, uncle and friend, native and lifelong resident of Raceland, Louisiana, and parishioner of St. Mary's Nativity Church, earned his angel wings on December 31, 2017.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Nativity Church on Monday, January 8, 2018, from 9 am until mass at noon with burial following in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Willie Mae 'Billie' Babin Foret, daughters, Drucilla 'Dru' and Veronica Foret, son, Dwayne (Shannon) Foret, grandchildren, Brady Foret-Chiasson, Courtney Foret-Chiasson, and Chloe Foret, and sister, Mildred Foret. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Clarisse (Monnier) Foret, brother, Douglas (Loretta Cantrelle) Foret, and godchild, Melissa Foret Pierce.
Dewey worked his entire career in various departments at Winn Dixie in Mathews and affectionately was called 'the Winn Dixie Man' for over 30 years until he retired. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, going to casinos and helping others. His favorite pastime was sitting on the sunlit porch swing alongside his four-legged companions.
He served God with a strong faith and could be seen for 8 am mass at St. Mary's Nativity Church in Raceland on most Sundays where he would open the church and enjoy greeting parishioners with a smile as they arrived for mass.
In lieu of flowers, masses or memorial donations may be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association.
Samart/Mothe Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
